5-Minute Chai Dalgona - 2 Ingredients, No Coffee, Dairy Free!

Close up of Chai Dalgona

It all started with me wanting to try something new with chai, inspired by Dalgona coffee—the whipped coffee that took over the internet a while back. But there were two issues: 1) I was out of coffee, and 2) I wanted this drink to be purely chai and as simple as possible. So, my lazy brain got to work. If the Dalgona whip only requires sugar, instant coffee, and water, why not just mix chai tea and sugar together? It'd be a super chai Dalgona that’s easy to make and a true purebred. And guess what? It worked! Here's my quick, 5-minute Chai Dalgona recipe - 2 ingredients, no coffee, and dairy-free.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Boil 500 ml of water. Steep the 2 tbsp of Spill The Chai  (equivalent to around 2 tea bags) for 5-7 minutes. Strain the tea and set it aside to cool (or use it warm if you prefer).

  2. In a bowl, mix 2 tbsp of the cooled chai tea with 2 tbsp of sugar (or sweetener).

  3. Whisk or use an electric mixer (trust me, it’s much easier than doing it by hand!) to whip until it becomes thick and frothy, about 2-3 minutes.

  4. Pour the remaining chai tea into a cup (over ice for an iced version).

  5. Spoon the whipped chai mixture on top, and enjoy!

And there you have it—a simple, two-ingredient Chai Dalgona that's easy to make, dairy-free, and packed with pure chai flavor! While the Dalgona whip-to-chai ratio could be tweaked to taste, this version is a great starting point. For a bit of flair (and basically just to be extra), I sprinkled some chai tea leaves on top and styled it with flowers for a beautiful backdrop. The sweet Dalgona whip balances the bold chai flavor, making it more drinkable, especially for first-time chai tasters like myself.
